About Richard Kitching

I am a kind, empathetic  and knowledgeable education leader with a wealth of experience across the  education sector. 

Having qualified as a Primary School Leader in 2006, I have successfully taught across the Primary School age range in both single year group and mixed age classes. I have held five Senior Leadership posts in five different settings in varied contexts culminating in two successive Headships and an interim Headship.

As a Class Teacher, I have taught successfully in all year groups across the Primary Age range securing excellent outcomes for the pupils in my care.

During my career I have confidently led most primary curriculum subject areas including English, Music, PE, PSHE, History, Geography and MfL. I have also been a SENDCo.

I have particular expertise in leading primary schools in small village settings and, as Headteacher, I successfully guided a small village Primary School through Ofsted, the school funding crisis and then the outbreak of Covid-19.

I have substantial experience of Ofsted school inspections at both middle leader and senior leader level. I am used to leading schools through periods of substantial change and uncertainty.

In December 2023, I decided to leave my substantive Headship role to explore other leadership opportunities in education. I am currently studying for an MA in Education Leadership and Management and I support school leaders from across the country as a Leadership Coach. This includes leaders in primary, secondary, independent and specialist settings.

I am passionate about staff well being and ensuring a healthy work life balance. 

Outside of work and studying, I enjoy spending time in the outdoors walking, running and cycling. My favourite place is the Lake District and I am working my way through climbing all 214 ‘Wainwright’ fells. I enjoy listening to a variety of different types of music and playing the piano and guitar.

I love spending time with my wife, three children and Cockapoo named 'Sandy'.
